Good things come to those who wait, and… nothing good comes easy.
These are two reminders worth holding onto as you navigate the journey you’re on – and remember why you chose it in the first place.
See, people become comfortable. They settle in, put down roots, and follow an outline that has been laid out for them: graduate high school, go to university, fall into debt, get married, have children, take out a mortgage for the house – more debt – and then work nine to five in an air-conditioned cubicle.
Life gets real routine, real quick.
Predictability is alluring. Before long, you can become so familiar with it that stepping outside of it feels almost impossible.
If you’re willing to leave that life of comfort and pursue something that you know is going to be great – something you know is going to be exceptional – but that has proven to be challenging, difficult, and taxing to achieve, then you’re on the right track.
Do not give up hope. It is imperative that you stop the negative spiral before it takes hold.
Do not complain to others. Instead, say to yourself, “It’s fine.”
And then you continue on.
One step at a time.
Do not focus too far into the future. Do not fixate on that hazy space between point B and point Z.
No, sweetheart. Point B is your next step. That’s where you focus. That’s where you give your time and attention.
And once point B has passed, you’re on to point C. And then D. And so on.
It’s okay to feel scared.
It should. Any good adventure will feel scary. And it should cost you a lot of money. It should be difficult. Because if it were easy, everyone would do it.
And if it were easy, you wouldn’t value it as much as you do now.
You know it’s within reach, but somehow it still feels so far away. Why?
Because you’re ready for it. You can see where you’re going, and you’re tired of waiting for the pieces to fall into place. You want everything to be finished. You want to know that it’s all going to work out.
You want to arrive.
But you’re still on the journey.
So take your next step.
It’s all in God’s timing.
You wonder, “Why didn’t I start sooner? Why did I wait so long? I knew I wanted this. I knew I needed to do it. Why did I keep putting it off?”
And now you’re looking back, wishing you had started months ago. Wishing you had taken that first step sooner. Wondering how much further along you could be by now.
But darling, you weren’t supposed to start then.
You were supposed to start when you did.
God knows the timing better than you do. So surrender it all to Him. Trust Him, and trust that everything will come in its perfect time.
Trust that your goals are aligned with God’s goals.
Trust that what you want is what God wants – even in your health goals, your fitness goals, your relationship goals. And if it isn’t, sweetheart, trust that He will help you realign.
Because when you move against God’s will, everything can begin to feel like a struggle. Like trying to walk upstream in a river that’s rushing against you.
But when you surrender, when you trust, you can stop fighting the current.
Let yourself float down those waters.
That’s what God wants. He wants you to enjoy the process. He wants you to work hard, but He doesn’t want you to spend your days worrying about the outcome. He doesn’t want you to carry the weight of everything on your shoulders or lie awake wondering if you’re on the right path.
Do the work. Trust Him with the outcome.
Give all your anxious thoughts to the Lord, for He will take care of them.
And if you had just one job today – one thing you could focus on that would assure you that you were moving in the right direction – wouldn’t that be exceptional?
The good news is, you do.
Your one job is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body.
That’s it.
And He will take care of the rest.
And the payoff?
Oh, darling. The payoff, when you finally achieve that goal, will be unlike anything you have ever experienced.
Because good things come to those who wait.
